Exposing Satan for One of His Many Lies.

Most of us know this very popular phrase.

Shhhh. If it's not nice, I don't want to hear it.
Shhhh.  If it’s not nice, I don’t want to hear it.

” Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”

Satan can be very clever. He will say some truth but there is always going to be lies mixed in. The fact is, sticks and stones may break our bones. But, here is the lie right behind the fact stated in the above phrase. Words will definitely hurt us. Some people might say, ” I don’t care what people say about me. It doesn’t bother me at all.” And if that is you, that’s great. But words can definitely hurt us. If you have kids and you speak to your kids in a derogatory, condescending, and out right profane way; it takes a toll on them mentally over time. At some point in their lives, the belittling will affect how they interact with others and how they treat themselves. If you do not believe me, ask yourselves this, what will make a young child full of life want to kill themselves.

Not only do I believe words hurt, but the bible also states,” Death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21) When we speak death; death comes back to us. But if we speak life; life will come to us.

Let us speak life into our own lives and the ones we come in contact with. Stop all the negativity. My mom use to say,” if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” Let’s learn from Job 27:4. ” My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.”

Sometimes our children, friends, co-workers and family get on our nerves. Instead of opening our mouths to say something in retaliation; we will stop, think, and ask God to calm us down. It is a process for us all. We will have to think before any words come out of our mouths.

Challenging ourselves to change. We can do it!
