The Holy Temple

templeLuke 19:45-46 (KJV).45 And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;46 Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.

Not only was Jesus speaking to the merchants in the temple that were selling animal sacrifices that had defects and were not suitable for sacrifice; but the merchants were also using skewed scales that were cheating buyers out of there proper grain sacrifices. Imagine paying for something and being entitled to that thing and getting a below sub standard item instead.

It is very easy now, for us to see that those actions by the merchants were very wrong and we see why Jesus was angry and knocking over tables.

But what we might not recognize is, we are doing the same thing today. Under the new covenant…

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (KJV).16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Romans 12:1(KJV).1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service

God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Stating the previous fact… Jesus paid a price for us. Instead of giving Jesus what he has paid for, we give him below standard. Basically we are cheating God. Under the new covenant; our bodies are the temples. Instead of giving Jesus all he has paid for, we tell him,”yes, you did pay for me but I don’t want to give you all of me. I can only give you 2% or the most 50%. Jesus, I like drinking too much. I like sex too much. I like gossip too much. I like money too much. Jesus, I prefer to rip you off.” Trust and believe Jesus, our bodies are the temple of the Living God. Our Bodies are HOLY TEMPLES.
