Ephesians 5:23 .” For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.” (KJV)
There are a couple of things to take note of in this verse.
1. The husband is supposed to be the head of the wife.
2. A comparative is being made between the husband and Christ.
3. Christ is the head of the church.
(Not to start getting too deep, I will stick with only the 3 listed above.)
Wow… wow, this is some powerful stuff here. Personally, I have never seen a healthy, live head without it being attached to the body.I have never seen a live head walk into a room with no body in sight.(I am not saying a man in not complete without a wife, definitely not.) Even tough this verse has the husband and wife relationship first; the marriage relationship is supposed to immolate the relationship of Christ with the church. Christ’s selfless act lets husbands know how they are to treat their wives. Women that type of love is what I want for all of us. When the love like Christ is in the middle of your relationship; husbands will not have to complain about their wives not respecting them and wives will not feel like the relationship is a dead end.
Not only did Christ tell us how much he loved us; he also showed us, by dying on the cross.
Wow… not only are husbands suppose to tell their wives that they love them, but also show them. Don’t get me wrong. Some husbands actually understand and try their best with Gods guidance. But not enough husbands understand Ephesians 5:23, or even try.
Moving on to the second half of Ephesians 5:23.Christ is the head of the church. Mark16:19 states, ” So then after the Lord(Jesus)had spoken unto them(disciples), he was received up into heaven and sat on the right hand of God.” Ephesians 2:5,6 states,” Even when we dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ( by grace ye are saved). And hath raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.’ Wait… so why do we act so defeated. Maybe, possibly, we’ve lost our head (Christ Jesus). Remember, where the head is, the body is.
So lets recap. Husbands are the head of the wives. Husbands are to love their wives like Christ loves the church. Christ is the head of the church. We are the body of Christ. The body is attached to the head. Christ (the head) sits on the right hand of God. We( the body) sit in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
It gets better. Ephesians 1:22 states, ” And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.” So, the church( the body) which is attached to the head (Jesus Christ), has all things under our feet. This is some heavy stuff here.
Wait.. but why are there so many divorces? Why are wives getting abused? Why are husbands getting abused? Why are children being killed by their own parents? Why are we acting so powerless, when Jesus Christ tells us how much power we have in him?
Husbands, wives and children, tell me… Have we lost our Head?
