Barely Slipping By?

imagesCAV5GAXAMost Christians know Romans 10:9, ” That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Sometimes we take this verse and twist it into meaning something else. What do I mean by this statement, you might ask?

I was speaking to someone I knew for a little while. He was telling me all the things he wants to do in life. Some of the things he said, made me ask him if he was saved. Well, he told me he was and he stated the verse above. And it was good that he knew what he needed to be saved.  But the problem was … he felt that was all he needed for a close relationship with God. I realized when I spoke with different people. They had the same conclusion as the person I personally knew. People and friends have told me, they can do whatever they want. They can have sex with as many people as they like. They can be nasty and hateful to whom ever they want because they believe in Jesus and they confess they are Christians, and Jesus is Lord.

Before anyone says or thinks that I am judging others… lets go to Matthew 7:12-23. The verses in Matthew 7 tells us how we should behave as Christians and how others should behave also. I love all of the people I speak to.  I tell them; it is one thing to be saved and another thing to have a close relationship is Jesus. I find myself paying close attention to the things I say and do. Because if I say, I am a believer of Jesus Christ and the Holy spirit lives inside of me; I want my life to reflect my words. Who wants to be barely slipping into heaven, or better yet “skating on thin ice”, as some people say. I definitely do not want that for anyone I know or myself.

Sometimes friends ask, “Aren’t we under grace? Isn’t God going to forgive us anyway?” Romans 6:15 touches on those questions.

I see a relationship with Jesus this way. If I love someone; I would want to please them and make them happy. I would want to spend a lot of time with them. How much more would we do for our savior and king. My hope for us all, including myself; is that we not only say we are saved but also live like it.

On another note, we are having a back to school giveaway with the Gate Restoration Center. Please help out by donating school supplies for the less fortunate kids. As Christians we believe that faith without works is dead. Mail donations to address on home page. (top right). Thank you for your support and check out page.
